Interview
As part of our research, we interviewed a local guidance counselor, Mrs. Smith. She has her Master's Degree in school counseling.
Chris and Nichole interviewed Mrs. Smith about self-esteem.
1. What causes low self-esteem?
Mrs. Smith: It is a combination of things. Mostly it is caused
by the foods you eat and your peer interactions. If you eat unhealthy, it may be
a major factor in low self-esteem. As well as the number of positive or negative
adults you have in your life.
2. What are the effects of low self-esteem?
Mrs. Smith: In high school students, the lack of academic
productivity, such as if your grades are very low. As well as your performance
in extracurricular activities. As said before, the people you interact with and
family relations are also effects.
3. How does it affect adults? Kids?
Mrs. Smith: It is all the same except for the different
environments: work, school, etc.
4. Can self-esteem be genetic?
Mrs. Smith: The environment that you are in has a lot to do with
it. It is a combination with your family history as
well.
5. Can it be a result of household issues?
Mrs. Smith: Everything begins at home, if you are surrounded by supportive adults, then you will have a positive outlook.
